Cinque Terre... We made it!

The day began with a generous breakfast provided by our hosts on their outdoor patio.

We then drove twenty minutes to the La Spezia train station to begin our train, boat and car adventure.  Before 2011 tourists could walk between all of the five hill towns along coastal paths.  In 2011, a series of landslides made some of the paths impossible to use and so currently there is only one set of towns you can walk between, Vernazza and Monterosso.  As a result, almost everyone was following our same route to get off the train at each of the towns.  Our first stop was Riomaggiore

Then Manarola

We skipped Corniglia (but saw it from the boat on the way back) and made our way to Vernazza where a short walk led us to a seaside lunch.

The highlight of the whole trip came when we looked up from lunch and saw a woman who looked like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  Turns out, it was her and we used our best paparazzi skills to get our picture with her.

Then we went to Monterosso, filled with beach goers.

A run for all of us got us on the boat back towards La Spezia and a stop a Portovenere for Tessa to jump in the water.
