Lucca to Chianti

Even though we could have stayed at Guiliano and Donatella's house for a few more days to help them learn English we had to go.

On our way from La Spezia to Chianti we stopped in the Medieval walled town of Lucca.  You can take bikes or walk on top of the 4km wall to really get a sense of the city.  Ley's lasting memory of Lucca is the immensity of the wall and it's dominating presence around the city with 5 gates, a moat and three stories tall.  Locals say the wall is made of a million bricks.

We really didn't know want to expect of Chianti but our house and the village we are staying in is spectacular.  Another 15th century apartment that has been in the Mossachiodi family for 500 years.  Volpaia is between Greve and Radda in Chianti.
